Based on the great food at the JLT brunch, I was looking forward to taking my husband to a pizza express brunch for the first time for his birthday. Unfortunately, it was below average.
The waiter who seated us did not note my name just asked if we had a booking so I’m assuming didn’t bother to check the birthday note I’d made on the booking. There was no acknowledgment of his birthday. However the table next to us, maybe friends of the staff or the singers as they were very friendly, were given cake, candles and a song.
There were 3 tables at brunch so I’m surprised at the lack of attentiveness as they were not busy at all.
Food: all could have been forgiven if the food had been delicious. For a pizza restaurant and brunch, only 4 pizzas to choose from seems a bit lazy. And only one with meat on. And one with prawns, I wonder how many people order prawn pizza…
We were really disappointed with this, based on the choice of the normal menu. I think if the brunch menu was obvious on the website, we wouldn’t have booked.
With the lack of choice, there was also lack of flexibility. We asked for pepperoni (beef) to be added to the picante which was free of charge but if we wanted to add chicken to the Quattro it was extra charge.
When the pizzas came, the flavours were dull. The dough was heavy. A lot of red onion.
Starters were basic, we enjoyed the chicken bites. The honey dough balls were an attempt at re-designing the classic garlic dough balls. Weird spicy bread, which we did not enjoy. We saw another table had the classic dough balls so we were relieved there was no extra charge for these to be brought out as part of our starters.
The pizza we saw being delivered to tables outside the brunch, looked very different and appetizing.
Dessert: we didn’t want any but we weren’t offered the option to order any.
Cocktails were weak and watery.
The Bubblegum/prosecco/orange juice was so sickly sweet, it was like something an amateur bar tender would make. Due to the lack of choice, we stuck with vodka/Pepsi and beer.
I would have expected better tables service as they were so quiet, rather having to keep asking for another round of the same drinks.
Entertainment: very loud sound check and instrument tuning one hour into the brunch was disruptive and annoying. Why didn’t they do that before the brunch started?
From a price point, it’s a very good deal. But if the food isn’t good, it’s not enough to make you want to return.
Note for management: marketing is abysmal. Your website online form gave no confirmation of booking.
Had to go to socials and tried via WhatsApp, which then took me to Table Agent. With three different booking routes to attempt to get a table, and the brunch being so average, this was a really disappointing experience. Maybe this is why you only had 3 tables.
In short, we wouldn’t return or recommend.
