We have been ordering Chinese food for delivery in Kuwait for 3 years and this was the first time we decided to treat ourselves and order from The Peacock because it’s pretty expensive. I was also working in Kuwait from 1993-1998 and dined and took takeaways at The Peacock many times. Our takeaway order tonight was very disappointing. The spring rolls were oily, the chicken corn soup was bland, the hot and sour soup was actually pretty good but it wasn’t very warm. From here it went downhill. The Peacock style fired rice was the worse fried rice I’ve had in Kuwait. It was dry, tasteless and just not very good . There were clumps of white rice throughout the dish and the only vegetable in the rice was far too many frozen peas. There was some mystery protein, maybe shrimp finely chopped throughout the rice but it was dry. This is a dish that carries their name, Peacock style fried rice, they should be embarrassed to serve such a poor dish. It’s fried rice, any hawker stall in Singapore serves a much better fried rice. We also ordered boneless duck in lemon sauce, the lemon sauce was ok but the duck was dry and chewy. Lastly we’re had Hammour (fish) with oyster sauce. This resembled English fish and chips type fried fish with a few shreds of ginger and wilted spring onions. The oyster sauce was bland and didn’t taste very good at all. It was such as disappointment as I ate here years ago and the food use to be amazing. The quality of the food we received tonight was with out a doubt the worse Chinese meal we have had in Kuwait in the last 3 years which is made worse by the fact that we paid over $US100 for our take away meal for two. Located in Radisson SAS Hotel, the restaurant had and may still has an excellent reputation, in my own honest opinion I would say it's not as used to be in the past (so many years ago) in matter of food taste after the main chef left the place. The restaurant is well decorated, nice atmosphere, elegant, professional service, friendly staff and much more. High price, fair portion of food. I advise the management to improve the chefs capabilities if possible to reach the excellence like it used to be, no need to explain more i think they know what I'm aiming to. Other than that it's very good Restaurant, recommended. More
This is my second review, this time post-covid 19 we booked a table for 9 for a family weekend lunch. The service is really bad, the waiters English was modest, with an accent making it communications a challenging exercise. The food was good and the Peking duck was excellent . The price is as expected from a 5 star hotel restaurant but for a bill around 160 KD one expects a much better service as basics were missing for example all the platters served without serving spoons. Overall recommended for the food quality only.More
