Myself and a friend were excited to book Friday Brunch in the 5* Shangri La but our experience was quite disappointing. As we descended down the stairs to Sofra, we passed the afternoon entertainment which was a lively lady with a head-mic singing loud pop songs like Shakira, Bruno Mars, accompanied by maracas / tambourine / drum machine. She was a great singer, but the music and vibe was very intrusive, something I would expect on a cruise ship or maybe a family hotel in Europe, but I dont expect audience participation and a singer wandering amongst diners at Brunch. (I will note that there were some families with kids there who really enjoyed it - kids up dancing etc, but it wasnt for us and we had to be asked to seated as far away as possible as the music was so loud). Despite having emailed the restaurant twice in advance to advise of gluten free dietary requirements (I am coeliac), when I initially spoke to a chef about what I could eat, I was told I could eat everything. Then when I asked did nothing have flour or wheat in it then I was told I could eat "nothing". It was clear the chef did not understand either what gluten or a coeliac was, something I would expect in a 5* restaurant. Having spoken to a manager the next chef I spoke to was very helpful and able to answer all questions, but its still concerning that allergens weren't known. We paid approx E80 pp for the experience including alcohol so was disappointed that we only had a choice of 5 cocktails, some of which had unusual ingredients which wouldn't be to everyone's taste (ginger, pumpkin etc). We werent offered any other drinks menu. Overall if you're looking for a fun family-orientated afternoon of live entertainment this is right up your street. But if you're looking for a high-end Friday brunch experience (which I've had in other restaurants in the UAE) then this is not for you.More
This was the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. The requested meal was not served as requested as the chef named VIRENDER told me I had enough of the Lobster in a buffet style of dining. I was embarrassed in front of many people and ended up losing my appetite. This action by the chef is not acceptable at all! It was not worth eating here! Though food choices from other restaurants were offered at a later stage, but the meal experience was not fine so ended up not taking the meal at all.More
Excellent food. Menu is extensive to a particularly high standard. Definitely fine dining. It can be expensive but worth it and they have different themed dinner on different nights so it’s worth checking them out before you book. Staffs are great and always efficient, happy and polite specially Morris. He is always happy to serve us since 2018.More
