Went there for breakfast as the weather was nice & cool and they have a great outdoor garden. Due to load shedding, they could not serve coffee and certain breakfasts. Why open if you have limited ability to see your guests. The waiter was not even aware that they offered a glass of MCC with your breakfast. For a 5 star facility, a generator should be mandatory. Poor effort More
Lovely view, fabulous ambiance, friendly staff prefect setting. The Chef Tian (From Kokkedoor fame) managed to create a fine dining meal. From the delicate Octopus to the wonderful Cob fish, with a delicate lemon and butter cream sauce We will be back !!! More
We had heard great things about this new restaurant from friends (though had not seen anything advertised about it locally), so we tried it for dinner one evening with another couple. The location and décor are stunning, and the lodge (where we stayed 13 years ago when it was Helderberg lodge, before these renovations) is situated on a lovely slope surrounded by trees. Service was friendly, and we were seated outside on the terrace (after a bit of moving tables around and arranging a table for the 4 of us – unnecessarily complicated, given there weren’t many people there). The menu was a bit confusing in that there are "salads", "bar bites" and "to begin" and then "to continue" plates. We all started by sharing two salads - the beetroot (which our friends really enjoyed), and the broccoli (which was ok, but didn't quite live up to the name – we would have loved more grilled broccoli and other items and less iceberg lettuce). Under "to begin" dishes, there are mussels in 2 sizes, one of which is a main. My husband had the mussels, which he said were delicious, with a wonderful sauce (which was perfect once we were able to get some bread – this should accompany the mussels, without having to ask for it twice). The pork cheeks (a "to begin" meal) sounded like a main to me (with gnocchi, etc), and the dish was delicious but quite tiny, with about 3 small gnocchis and no vegetables at all on the side. So, I guess it's meant as a starter (though an unusual starter, in my opinion). When I asked for some veg - hoping for something green like broccoli or spinach - I was told no, the dish did not come with veg. When I pressed and asked what I could get as veg to supplement the dish (as an extra side), the server did not bring the menu to me, but only mentioned carrots, which didn't interest me, so I gave up. Our friends had the fish and chips which were beautifully presented and very good, they said, with excellent crispy chips. The wine list is very limited (a bit surprising in this rich wine area), and only one of the Sauv Blancs was available, and then we apparently had the last bottle of that (which we enjoyed). So, we had to move on to a Chenin Blanc (it was ok, but we really wanted some more Sauv Blanc). The delicious fresh bread that my husband finally got to accompany his mussels was a real highlight, and I also enjoyed a piece to supplement my tiny dish. We wanted to love this new local place, with its wonderful location and ambiance, but I think it needs to build a bigger wine list (especially if calling itself a “wine bar”!) and have a bit more wine inventory on hand, add more green vegetables to the menu (whether as optional sides, or to accompany meat/fish plates), and work out some glitches in the service (which was very friendly but a bit hit-or-miss) to ensure a good experience for diners. The servers might also explain a bit more the menu when it’s presented, describing what is really a starter size, what can work as a main, etc. We will go back, but hope some of these things can improve to make it a successful new, local eatery in this tough market.More
I found this beautiful place on the internet and decided to try The Eatery for an early lunch. My husband and I were not disappointed, the food was delicious and well presented. The staff were helpful and friendly. The ambiance is comfortable and relaxed. It is great to have a new top class restaurant in the neighborhood. I do have one criticism though and that is the coffee :( I would have expected great coffee to complement great food.More
My husband and I had the most amazing time at Silver Forest. From the moment we arrived we breathed in the relaxed atmosphere, welcomed with a glass of champagne. Clement was lovely making us feel welcomed from the beginning. The spa treatments were absolutely divine and so therapeutic. The therapists are all very kind and professional. I loved the tranquil music playing during our treatments, very calming and relaxing. The chef was amazing, he made delicious pizza that night- as they were renovating the restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed it and loved the fact we didn't need to leave the premises for dinner. It is one for the books and we will definitely be back again. It met our expectations and more. Thank you Silver Forest team for a fabulous stay. More
