This place usually lives up to its expectations, good food and lovely staff... HOWEVER... what a disappointment it was this time, the service was slow, it took 20 minutes just to order drinks (which were then forgotten). The Parmesan was shared between a number of tables... extremely unhygienic especially in these unprecedented times. To top it off, we waited for our bill for 20 mins, eventually we got up and paid at the bar. Really disappointed at the experience, it has tainted our view.... we won’t be returning any time soon.More
Gorgeous meal today at Amalia restaurant! I had the tortellini calabrese and my husband had a margarita pizza followed by tiramisu and chocolate fudge cake. Theres a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant, the meal was delicious and service was fantastic! I felt totally safe in regards to the restaurant anti-covid measures: social distancing, waiters wore masks, sanitiser and check in at the door, one way system. I will definitely be returning.More
I had a home delivery on Thursday whilst visiting Liverpool. This hands down has to be one of the best pizzas I’ve had. The base was super thin and the flavours of the tomato base were amazing. The Parmesan fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The only issue was the toppings had slid to the side but this would have been during delivery so not the restaurant fault. The food arrived hot too. I assume it would have been even better if we were allowed to dine in. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area.More
I booked a meal for me and my mum a few weeks back after a recommendation from a friend. I drove down for the weekend to see mum from Sheffield, we went out for drinks first and then to our meal... to find the restaurant shut due to a technical issue. The restaurant didn’t call to let us know they’d be closed or that our booking would be subsequently cancelled; I messaged on Facebook and they read it but haven’t since replied.
We ended up having to ring around to find somewhere that would take us last minute, and in the end had a further 3 hour wait until we could get in to the Alchemist. We were so excited to see each other finally with everything going on, and this put such a dampener on the day being left in the lurch for an extra 3 hours.
So unbelievably unprofessional, will never recommend them and the person who did to us has since stopped recommending to others too.More
Ate again at this restaurant post lockdown in September.
First visit was in March but this experience was totally different.
Everywhere very clean restaurant and toilets super clean.
Track and trace in place using the NHS app - but you have to download
a menu via a QR code on your phone - mine wouldn't work so they gave us a tatty menu instead.
Don't understand the app thing for the menu when they can just provide disposable "use once" paper copy menus similar to other restaurants.
We used the Meercat meal deal and no issue using it.
Husband ordered plain cider but they did not have nay left and they only had fruit cider - did arrive with ice and blackberry and was nice touch.
Wine we ordered was out of stock and we settled on our second choice.
Ordered prawns for start - i got 4 frozen type large prawns and not the usual king prawns you get in a decent Italian restaurant. Husband had the meatball and was okay. ( Starters so not worth the money, if we were not on the two for one deal we thought).
Mains - husband big piece of chicken in sauce and I had the salmon pasta - husbands was a bit weird as had raw hard sliced carrots in with the cream and mushroom sauce - really odd.
I swapped penne pasta for spaghetti and no issue doing this - but actual salmon in pasta was very small portion. ( again glad we were on the two for one deal).
We both had the chocolate fudge cake with ice cream and scoop s of ice cream...
Okay but cake tasted on the stale over heated side and was really dense not like normal fudge cake.
we asked for 2 liqueur coffees with brandy in them.....bar man brought over two black brandy coffees in tall liqueur glass - no cream on top ---really odd...we asked bar man/server - and he didn't seem to know what we were talking about and we explained it should have cream on top...we asked for even squirt cream anything which he went and got for us....
Service was random - as we had to stop a waiter going past to get service - nobody came and checked on tables to see if we wanted anything else only when we moved plates to near end to be picked up - just felt not enough staff.
By the time we left - people had been seated at every table by windows and not a metre away from where my husband was sitting.....won't be rushing back anytime soon and so felt like a different restaurant to our last visit.More
