Currently we are 4 days in to a 12 day stay and this is our second time at this hotel . I can’t believe in 5 years how much a hotel can go so badly down hill . The rooms are tired and cramped and in need of a massive overhaul the service around the pool area is absolutely shocking, it’s that bad I wouldn’t even call it service but they still charge you a service charge for overpriced basic food . Not once have a I sat round the pool and been asked if I want a drink or food or anything . I have found a lot of the staff incredibly lazy at this hotel not what I was expecting for a “Shangri-La” resort which we have stayed at many around the world . Must say the staff in the restaurant for breakfast in morning have been fantastic and the food is very good . For me staying at a hotel like this with two children and no family size room is a real squeeze and gutted to say I wouldn’t come back to this hotel again now unless it was totally given a make over . 3* no more for this hotel but location of it is fantastic . I spent a week in the hotel with my husband and son in September. Water leaked from the shower into the bathroom floor each time anyone had a shower. Although I payed for 3 people in the room we had to request an additional towel for my son. We also had to request a bed to be provided for him( this was booked and payed for and should have been arranged). Glasses etc in the room were only provided for two. Following our return home, I found that my credit card had been charged twice for holiday. When I called to discuss this the hotel staff advised that they were already aware that several people had been overcharged. if they were already are I ma asking how come I was not advised beforehand and how come the money had not been put back into my bank.I am still trying to get the money back and having all sorts of trouble with this. At this stage I have passed on the issue with my bank who are following up with golden sands directly.Read more
Overall service at the hotel was good. From my booking our group consisting of 9 persons Ranjit Singh FOM, Ahamed Rafiq,ASSt Director F&B, and Chef Lee left no stone unturned to make our holiday and Birthday Celebration an awesome experience. The location of the hotel is good and right on the beach. The rooms and toilets need upgrading, as it does not justify the cost compared to some of the other resorts in Penang.Read more
My 2nd visit!! Old hotel with exciting facilities. Room is spacious. Good buffet spread. Centrally located in Batu Feringhi area. The pool was amazing and the view is breathtaking!! Will definitely come againRead more
This was my 18th stay and first for 2 years after a very poor earlier visit. It was nice to see that they are at last in the process of renovating rooms and my room 216 on the 2nd floor was very acceptable. I noticed that new furnishings have been applied and all other ares cleaned up. I could not fault the room except for one ODD point. The room had new style safety deposit box, BUT this was not bolted down and it could easily have been removed from the room. Positioning of the safe was also in an awkward position and this could have been better placed. Staff still remain excellent with few exceptions. It was also nice to see that there have been updates made around the grounds with tables and shades improved. Slow service still with drinks and food in the gardens. My main complaint would be that the pools need to be CLEANED well. Daily there was grit in the pool, and I managed to get a bad ear infection that over a week at home, still worries me. Breakfast served was good but variety changed very little over a 9 day stay. Drinks served at Sigi's bar are over priced, and the area has little or no atmosphere at night, hence a lot of guests eat and drink outside the hotel. The lobby bar also has a lack of atmosphere and the only highlight here is that they have a most pleasant staff member in Jelita serving. She is a wonderful member of staff, and has been for many years.Read more
