This is our 2nd time back to GS in 2 years, and we are greatly disappointed by the aging of the property and deteriorating service quality. While the staff is generally still friendly, we are missing the genuine client centric hospitality we experienced last time. When i called the operators for a few requests, she was in a hurry to hang up before i even finished explaining my first concern. It may be personal, based on my past good experiences, many staff seems to be in a rush to move onto something else instead of focusing on the situation on hand. Secondly, there is a person with bike giving out free nut every evening. The problem is the person not only give out free nuts to human but also to pigeons which often gather in tremendous number. Then kids/ other customers start to chase and feed these pigeons. Thus at times if you sit in a “wrong” area, it can be not only annoying but also very dangerous. I absolutely do not understand how can a hotel like GS allow such unruly and dangerous practice - are they not aware of bird flu and have to risk inviting more virus? Some pigeons even start drinking from hotel pool!! To top this up, guests also feed the pigeons with bread and other food, and hotel makes no effort to stop this kind of unhygienic and disturbing behavior on their property. For room service, we had to wait more than 1 hour and called twice to follow up, and every time the staff simply tell us “it’s on the way” and then hang up. Lastly, many groups of adult customers are very loud, into the small hours of the night, and i was awakened by shouts in the hallway few times at 2 or 3 am !!!!! While security responded quickly to such complaints, it doesn’t always solve the problem when the type of people who resides have no respect for others. There are many more other incidents during our 1 week stay, which makes us rule out this hotel for any future trip to Penang. I am still giving it 3 star instead of 1 star because the Bell boys, and restaurants staff are still extremely nice and some go out of the way to help us. Read more
We had a great stay at the Golden Sands Resort in Penang with our 5 and 4 year old sons who loved the splash zone and adventure zone. Kids club starts at 5 yrs old so we didn’t end up putting them in. Particular thanks to the wonderful IT staff member Mitchell who went above and beyond helping me out in the business centre with my USB which was not working which I needed. Mitchell was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble in helping me out. Thank you Mitchell for your kind service! Thanks again Golden Sands!!Read more
