This popular bar has pleasant staff and good food but is spoilt by the attitude and behaviour of the Western manager I shall no longer spend my money thereRead more
If you like tasteless Asahi and a couple of other mainstream beers then by all means give this place a go. But if you want to try real beer - as in beer that has taste and character - then the Jockey will be the worst bar you can possibly choose in Hong Kong. Thumbs Down until they get some proper beer coming out of the tapsRead more
My first trip to the Jockey Club was an unqualified success. How fortunate that my brief stay in Hong Kong included a Wednesday: “Get ye to the track!” After a quick subway trip and a bit of a hike, I made my way to Section G, where a window table awaited (always a good idea to book ahead). Starting just after 7:00 p.m., every half hour produced another race on the easily viewable track. An outside balcony provided the “you are there” feeling for those who enjoy a fine meal that doesn’t include horse flesh. The dining setup was simplicity itself: Take a stroll along the appetizer offerings, fill your plate (a wide variety including mussels, large shrimp, salads, sauces and pasta), order a drink and let the meal begin! For the main, it’s a simple process of exchanging the chit with your table number on it, making a selection (I chose the goose with red cabbage) then waiting for the “puck” to start glowing a few minutes later, indicating your meal was ready to be picked up. The goose was appropriately juicy and tender with the veggies just a tad short of tender crisp (of course that need not be the case for the cabbage which added texture, taste and colour to the whole). A glass of Pinot Noir, did the rest and while I didn’t make a bet below, taking a gamble on visiting this track paid off handsomely.Read more
It's a brilliant activity in a fabulous place. I would say a must do if you visit HK since it is one of the best places that have world class races. Cost of entry is a nominal amount of US$1.30 for locals and FREE for visitors (bring your travel document). The atmosphere is great with live music between races. Whether you gamble or not there's lot of fun just to be part of it. Food and beers abound at reasonable price. Read more
Ordered food for delivery and it got lost, driver delivered it somewhere else. When I rang the restaurant the Manager told me it was not his problem, the driver had picked it up and that was that! They're happy to take your money but couldn't care less about customer service. How this guy is the Manager is beyond me, he should be sacked! Won't eat there again.Read more
