We Ubered to Melville for lunch. After walking a few blocks and checked out the menu/yelp reviews, we decided on Lucky Bean Restaurant, for a delicious South African meal. The atmosphere was relaxing, waiter was friendly and helpful, and the food was amazing. It was simple plates with food we didn’t recognize (like snoek and halloumi) and it was all delicious (and we were hungry). Would definitely come again.More
Came here for a sunset bottle of rosé and ostrich meatballs on a balmy Wednesday night- it was lovely. Service was fabulous with a very attentive and friendly waiter, and the owner came by to chat several times and welcome us to Jburg. He was projecting and old silent movie on the building across the street and the outdoor seating and the great food and wine made for wonderful ambiance. Would definitely come back for drinks for a full meal! More
My wife and I were fortunate to stay at a B&B in leafy Melville, Johannesburg over a weekend in early January. Our B&B was steps away from highly-recommended Lucky Bean. Our initial impression was very positive. The decor is comfortable, the tables decently spaced to allow for some privacy. The service was incredibly attentive but also leisurely - they didn’t rush us at all. We were particularly taken with the proprietor Trevor, a very engaging man who took the time to give us some good touring advice. We started off splitting the pork belly appetizer. My wife’s main course, ostrich fillet was one of the best dishes she had ever eaten. I was similarly enthusiastic about my main, the venison fillet. The prices were extremely reasonable. Our meal, including wine and bubbly mineral water but no dessert, cost under US$50. We so enjoyed our meal that we returned two nights later. My wife refused to part from her ostrich fillet. My beef fillet was nicely prepared but not as exciting, but the accompanying vegetable sauce with a long, unpronounceable name added flavour.More
Delicious South African themed food. The homemade ice cream was delicious. Great ambiance and place to dine in Melville. More
Really impressed by the quality of the produce and service. They have an original menu with South Africa vibe and very well executed. The ostrich fillet is fantastic, service was fast and competent, I've of the best restaurants I have visited recentlyMore
