Casual Luxury in paradise, great food, friendly staff and perfect accommodation. Only little downside is the house riff which for experienced divers will not do the trick. However, many dive and snorkel sites can be reached within a 30 minutes boat trip.More
After we have been here in November 2018, also our second trip was more than we ever could have hoped for! Not only did the holiday live up to our expectations, due to the open-heartedness of every single staff member, we have met throughout our stay on the island, we again really felt "home"!! We more than enjoyed the stunning location, nature, service, quality, tastiness of the food, sustained concept, luxury, etc. etc. and again wanted to address a heartfelt and honest Thank You, to everyone making our vacation more than perfectl!! As a returner to this beautiful place, we really enjoyed every second of our stay and as we knew what to expect, it even felt more like a relieve getting back to this small spot of paradise it is! Same as with our last vacation here, I cannot even put it into words, how perfect this vacation was. From the day we arrived, we felt how everyone made an effort to make our vacation just a little better! This is something we have never experienced so far and we never took for granted! Regardless of how stressed out or busy, everyone, from the gardener to the manager, welcomed us with a “good morning”, a small talk about weather or just a little smile, which really stepped it up, from any other vacation we have ever been on! The cusine on the various island restaurants was extraordinary, same goes for the room, the island and the rest of the trip. We have been to many places around the world, eaten many things and talked to a lot of people, but we never we felt so “home” in a foreign place!More
It was the Best of Times; it was the worst of times... Imagine your self on a remote island in Paradise, wishing that you would nver have to return ? Be careful what you wish for... Imagine that you were on that island and could not return ! The day we arrived, all of our flights were cancelled - via India; Britain; USA and even Canada. Shortly thereafter, flights into and out of Maldives were cancelled. So there we were.. a tiny band in Paradise - virtually our own private paradise. outnumbered by staff by at least a 50-1 ratio.(others vacationers had already left) . But, with no assurance of a way home. Even the Staff were told that they had to leave.. Yet , the staff and management despite the obvious stresses were exemplary.. Every tiny detail taken care of - evan a birthday, chocolates and champagne on my Birthday.. So very much more that I would love to tell you about Lux, and how this ended. But Trip Advisor word limits make this problematic. Will send photos or gladly answer questions later or on request. Suffice it to say for now, that if anything, the glowing reviews that you have already read were guilty of understatement. Would we go back Ha. Ha. In a funny way, I wish that we were still there.More
This island is far beyond the images you see online it is absolutely stunningly beautiful. From arriving in Malle you are ushered into the private Luxe lounge to await your seaplane. Refreshments and relaxing facilities are at you disposal, cannot comment further as fortunately our seaplane was ready for us to board shortly after arriving. The seaplane is an exhilarating experience taking approximately 30 mins, something not to be missed. On arriving at Luxe you are greeted by a number of staff and whisked to reception to checkin. We had booked a beach villa which was the second cheapest option, this was not just a financial decision but we wanted to be directly on the beach. Well we were not disappointed as it was perfect. Large sleeping and lounging area leading straight out to a veranda and then onto a huge stretch of beach before reaching clear turquoise sea. Two separate dressing areas, his and her basins, shower and loo, not to mention outside bath and shower which we adored. I will say that we were on the north side of the island which has a much larger beach area to the sea. Superb cleaning and replenishing service together with an evening turndown. Bath robes, flip flops and beach bags are provided. We were all inclusive and dined in all the restaurants, some of which required reservations. Breakfast can be taken at either Mixe or East market, both very extensive choices of almost anything and cannot be faulted. Veli beach bar is a relaxed eatery and is great for lunch offering a good selection of eats light bites or something more. The lagoon bar, for drinks or lunch has more of a beach vibe with music and again anything from light salads to burgers and sandwiches, occasional barbecue. Beach rouge is open for lunch and dinner using the same menu for both, grills and salads, a kind of tapas type of eating, the truffle chips were amazing. Dinner at Allegria the Italian restaurant seems to be the Islands favourite offering a four course menu to AI guests, we had 3 dinners and they were very good. Senses was our favourite bar for evening drinks and is located opposite the Indian restaurant which was fair but not great, but perhaps we chose wrong. We booked the teppanyaki at Umani and had a superb meal, we also dined a la carte and had an equally good meal albeit needed guidance on the menu. The ice cream parlour serves cones and tubs and great sorbets for a refreshing treat. Fresh coffee (every variety hot and cold) and cakes can be taken throughout the day. There are plenty of activities to partake but we only took up on the boat trip snorkelling, which was brilliant around 40 mins snorkelling. There is a superb spa and gym should you desire. Drinks and cocktails were extensive and on the whole very good, although the cocktails were the same in all the bars the end product was not consistent, some speciality brands along with specialty foods in the restaurants had supplements to AI guests. We took the opportunity to stay in a romantic water villa with pool for our last 2 nights which was superb albeit for us not as special as the beach villa. The outside areas with your own mini infinity pool is breath taking. Some that are far out on the pontoon are quite a distance to walk. A great touch was the 2 British phone booths which could be used for free calls around the world. The staff were willing to please, nothing was too much, I would say that in some areas particularly the restaurants it was not 5* service we believe this was due to lack of guidance and direction. All in all an amazing 10 day trip of a lifetime.More
Overall, the holiday was excellent, surpassing our expectations and we would love to visit LUX South Ari Atoll again in the future. Plus points • Excellent organisation of transfers to and from the resort and the airport • Friendly, helpful and efficient staff (especially Niya, and Ismail (villa cleaning and in-room villa art of decorations on bed!) • Excellent restaurant and food options throughout the resort in terms of quality and choice • Excellent location with respect to beaches, lagoon, reefs, etc • Well-appointed, spacious pool over-water villa (104) Minus points • Villa interiors looked a little ‘tired’ (toilet seat didn’t stand up; terrace awning was ripped) DJ music not really to our taste - felt it was a little bland and didn't really get the guests dancing Suggestions • A bar near reception to watch the sunsets (not visible from East Market bar) • Offer choice of ‘spiciness’ for dishes at Senses. We found the curries lacked flavour, but the chef kindly added more spices on our second visit • Offer a tour of the gardens, pointing out plants, animals, etc • We didn’t see anyone using the beach volleyball court. Maybe fix a daily time for a game, e.g. 5 pm.More
