We stayed here for a week in July. The Sofitel is a nice hotel however a couple of things have annoyed us and therefore tarnished our views on the hotel. Upon checkin we were told that we had to give a credit card to the receptionish and that 3500AED (aprox £800) would be deducted from that card. We were told that it was common practice for hotels in Dubai to charge your card with 500AED for every day that you stay. This was our first time to Dubai and therefore didnt realise this was common practise. We didnt have a credit card with us but only had a debit card - the receptionist told us they could use the debit card and that they would only deduct 2000AED (approx £440) from it but as it was a debit card it would take between 5-10 days for any unused funds to be refunded. We aggreed as we didnt feel as though we had a choice in the matter. People staying at the Sofitel should be made aware of this charge either before or upon booking. Upon check out we found that we were charged 20AED per day as a tourism tax again we had not been informed that this would be charged. I have paid a tourism tax once before in another country but again it would have been nice to have been told so that people can budget. Our final bill was approx 1100AED meaning just under 900 AED was to be refunded (approx £180). 2 emails and 2 weeks later we still had not received this refund for these funds. On the 14th day after checkout I sent the 3rd email and was told that the refund had just been processed (this was supposed to be processed on check out 14 days previous) and would take a further 3 working days to arrive back into my account. by day 17 the refund was returned but I feel that had I not chased this whether it would have been returned at all. I also feel that as it was my normal bank account I was keeping an eye on it but had it been a credit card account I probably wouldn't have watched and waited for the refund. This makes me wonder how many other people have not received their refund!!! Back to the hotel we were on a half board basis which meant we had breakfast and then you can choose to have either lunch or dinner. No drinks are included on half board basis. Room - we stayed in a palm view room. It was very nice with a large bed, sofa, desk/dressing table, TV, Bose sound system, Complimentary Tea & Coffee, Complimentary water every day, mini bar (payable), Iron and ironing board, safe, slippers and robes, separate toilet, bathroom with separate bath and shower (rainfall shower), twin sinks, elemis toiletries, hair dryer. Aircon was very quiet and worked well and view of balcony was of the palm and the buildings at the marina. Restaurants Main buffet restaurant (Manava) - had breakfast here every morning and food and service was excellent. We also ate at the evening buffet here twice during our stay - very nice. other restaurants that we were able to use our dinner voucher for was Porterhouse (steakhouse), Hong Loong (chinese) and Moana (fish). We visited the porterhouse and Moana and were very impressed with both - I have written a separate review for these The Porterhouse also has a separate bar and a sports bar. Here there is happy hour every evening between 5-8pm. Approx cost of a bottle of wine during happy hour was about £40. Alcohol is very expensive and best thing to do is to buy any alcolhol from the airport. Alcohol is not sold in supermarkets in Dubai. There is a cafe in the lobby which I think is called Olivier's. Lovely place for coffee, cakes and ice-cream Pools The main pool is large and chilled so nice to be in especially when temp was between 45-50 degrees. The kids pool was too cold and even though the temperture outside was soooo hot it was unpleasant stepping into the kids pool as it was ice cold. Unfortunately there is nothing the hotel can do about my next comment but I need to voice my opinion - the pools were just sooooooo very busy - too busy and we literally didnt get a space to ourselves - because of this the pool areas felt more like a cheap resort in Spain during school holidays than a 5 star luxury hotel in Dubai (we were there before the schools break up). Gelati There is a lovely ice-cream shop next to the kids club where you can choose ice-cream or sorbet and there is happy hour from 3pm when you get an extra scoop for free. Overall - the hotel is nice but we did expect more and the feeling that it was at times a cheap hotel in spain instead of a 5 star luxury hotel in dubai would prevent us from recommending this hotel to others.Read more
The Service was absolutely excellent in every detail, from the greeting at check in through to the check out. Our Junior Suite was excellent with magnificent view over the palm. Located on the Palm easy access was gained by a short taxi ride to the Dubai Mall. Having travelled extensively in high class hotels I can honestly say this was the best hotel I have stayed in for Service, friendly staff and cleanliness. The food was excellent. I was pleasantly surprised by the pool attendants who could not do enough to obtain a Sun Bed. Well done to you all.Read more
We stayed at this hotel for the second time at the apartments. It's a beautiful hotel with lots of pools for the kids and not too busy either. THe kids club was really nice as well. My kids didn't use this facility the last we came because they were too young but enjoyed it so much this time they didn't want to leave. The porters are very helpful, JAGGA and AZAR were the two we used to deal with regularly, they were very polite and would go out of their way for you. Thank you for your service. We did raise a few concerns during our stay but the manager on duty, MINA was so polite he helped resolve things so quickly. The food was lovely at the restaurant and special thanks to KUNDAN who would always bring over to us our fresh fried chips as they weren't always available. I would recommend this hotel because they really know how to look after their guest.Read more
Hard to find fault with this exceptional hotel and fantastic staff. Yes I've stayed here regularly for the past three years, but it's always nice to be recognised by the staff and made to feel at home. I'll start this review with the wonderful kids club. Our eight-year-old has become an expert at kids clubs around the world, and if he says this one is the best (from the Maldives to the Caribbean, Mauritius to Sri Lanka), then I'll take his word for it. Any family with young ones travelling to Dubai should consider this hotel. The staff are incredibly warm towards your little ones, and as a parent, you know the most precious piece of your life is in excellent hands. Bravo to all of the staff Amura kids' club. Harry says hi and see you again soon. As for the rest of the hotel, you're made to feel incredibly welcome, treated like house guests, and after my last review, we were pleased to find a Nespresso machine in our room rather than having to boil kettles and drink freeze-dried instant coffee. It was also nice to be offered access to the Millesime lounge on account of our regular visits, which, given it offers all-day snacks (and we had two older and very hungry teenagers with us), proved to be a fabulous bonus. My wife once again enjoyed the fabulous spa, and Wawa expertly eased away the aches and pains of travelling en famille (and my wife loved the personalised selection of products that was delivered to our room shortly after her treatments). There are too many staff members to single out by name, but you know who you are and you do a fantastic service to this hotel. The only minor downside during our trip was the swimming pool could get very crowded (the kids pool with slides was closed for maintenance), and it was frustrating to have to go down at the crack of dawn to try to secure a sun bed (or five). Maybe the hotel should introduce a paid-for booking system so you don't feel the need to set an alarm clock in order to get a pitch near the pool in order to keep an eye on your little one? Just a thought...Read more
What an amazing experience from the moment we arrived at the front door. Everyone is so knowledgeable about all the facilities in and around the hotel, no matter who you speak to. We had a suite allowing us to us the "Club Milleseme" facilities. The room for evening canapés and drinks isn't that big and one night was very noisy with a lot of children in there. Perhaps that could be addressed. Special thanks to Mariia in the club room. She was amazing! Thanks to "micko" on check in who was SO helpful. If you can, use the spa facilities do so, it's brilliant!!Read more
