The Els Club carvery has always been my favourite brunch, until recently! The Big Easy used to be fabulous both for the quality of food and the wines, but it's changed, and not for the better. The Big Easy gorgeous wines have been replaced by stuff you can get anywhere which is such a shame as it was the thing that made it stand out and half the stuff they don't have available such as their old cocktails and they hardly had any rose or red wine and as I say of average quality. The food, whilst it's OK is nowhere near as good as it was. I feel there has been a fundamental change, of personnel and produce perhaps? I used to believe it was the best place to go and told everyone it was the best but now I question if we can be bothered to take a cab journey there.... previously it was always worth it....sadly not anymoreMore
The perfect post golf fine dining experience without over doing the formalities. A nice two-metre (nice to meet you too) distancing was in place, as it was on the golf course where the best and most testing greens in the land hit me between the eyes, as did the daringly delightful Chicken livers with the spicy-spicy sauce mopped up with the finest home baked corn bread with a light dusting of Garlic. Sharing the 'just right' scallops was a great call, the best of both worlds as land and sea where covered. The steaks where even higher on the main with a Sirloin like no other, thankfully honouring my 'medium rare with no factor 50 on' request that most meats fail to make the cut on. With that 'it's great to home' mashed potato done right along with enough mushrooms to ensure I didn't have 'much-room' for desert. It had to be done, the chocolate fondant and Cappucino that thankfully didn't leave me with a caffeine / sugar high where I need help to get down from the ceiling. It felt like a Xmas dinner, that type of feeling without the hassle of being surrounded by random Uncles who meant something to me back in the mid 80's. The Big Easy bar and Grill meant alot to me that day - I wasn't expecting anything like the quality of efficient yet laid back service that reflects the Big Easy and his fine attitude to life in general. The beer we wanted was sold out. The red wine we wanted was sold out. The sea bass we wanted was sold out. The seafood pilaf was ordered without clams or mussels (allergy). When the dish came, it had mussels in it. When the correct dish arrived (when all others in the table had already eaten their food) the rice was undercooked, scallops like rubber and food all-in-all was inedible. Bad experience even if the one horrible food was comped.More
