My family and I visited for the day. The beach is clean and gently shelved so great for kids. The ambience from when you arrived is special. The pools are varied and we dipped in and out. We ordered some snacks and drinks, which whilst pricey, were good. Fab day!Read more
Overall: Highly recommended. The hotel is part of the Ritz-Carlton brand and with that comes certain expectations on service and quality. The Sharq did not disappoint in any dimension. You’ll see many Western business-types and Qataris there having formal and informal meetings; we tourists were the smaller contingent. I would wager that its popularity can be attributed not only to the high service levels but also to its ideal location: only 10 minutes from Hamad, literally next door to the dhow marina, less than five minutes from the National Museum of Qatar (incredibly cool architecture and very well done perspective on the history of the country), and less than ten minutes from the Souq Waqif. Staff: We arrived after 1AM and were greeted by a positive and attentive staff, which at that time of the night can be a 50/50 proposition. The gentleman who checked us in also escorted us the room (about a 4 min walk) to make sure everything was fine. Our bags quickly followed. Prior to arriving, I had been communicating with the lead concierge there, Virender, who quickly responded to my multiple emails about scheduling drivers and excursions in Doha and the surrounding areas. An extremely diligent and friendly resource, Virender worked with me to arrange multiple activities with very good local companies. I was happy to pay the slight premium by booking through the Sharq as I wouldn’t have known which tour companies were good or even capable. His suggestions on activities were spot on, and he also took care of complete arrangements for my round at Doha Golf Club. Superb service here and would recommend you work with the concierge team there for sightseeing ideas (we did a driving city tour, camel-racing, camel riding and the golf). In each restaurant there were numerous servers paying attention and all spoke adequate to excellent English. Accommodations: The Sharq is set up as a village concept, with multiple buildings housing residences, a very large spa and restaurants. I believe our building (#2) had eight units, including a large center courtyard. We only heard one door closing on occasion, as the soundproofing was excellent. We were upgraded to a second floor beach/skyline view room, with typical Ritz quality amenities (Egyptian cotton sheets, extra large towels, abundant premium bath amenities, lots of bottled waters and Nespresso capsules). All room items were in perfect working order which in Qatar is essential – we were there in mid-September when the temps were 100-105F each day and the “feels like” regularly went above 120F. We would have liked to have used our balcony more but the heat wouldn’t accommodate much more than 15-20 minutes at a time. We had breakfast each day at the main restaurant so we could enjoy the very large buffet (we had lunch one day there, too). Western, Eastern and Arabic choices were available at multiple large stations, and the live station offered omelets at breakfast and grilled meats/seafood at lunch, all capably prepared. Overall, the Sharq was the perfect property for us to base out of as we learned about the Qatari culture and the city of Doha.Read more
