The stay was above and beyond our expectations! The service given by the staffs is amazing. Regardless of front desk or even workers watering plants, they all serve with a smile and warm welcome greetings. We were given a warm welcome the moment we step into the island by jawed , our butler was very friendly and helpful! He always give us a guide and information about the resorts. We stayed on beach villa We were very impressed by how spacious rooms are! The beach villa have a very nice direct access to the beach and water villa is just amazing! Food is delicious and a wide variety of options and activities are available. The best part of the visit to Sun siyam is the staff. They made our stay. Fauzi the tall guy from the Italian restaurant trio he were so attentive, he knew our names , he also remember what I liked and made sure that we was enjoying all times. Also the sttaf at waters edge the main bar theybare so friendly. Although there was sunshine all the time! The buffet meals were also good. They have different theme every day to keep our taste buds intrigued. We particularly enjoyed the sharkRead more
We stayed here for 5 nights in a horizon water villa with hot tub after a 9 day tour of Sri Lanka for our honeymoon. This is an honest independent review from a young couple. To put this into context we came off-season (late sept/early Oct) and the main focus of our holiday was exploring Sri Lanka, we had booked some really nice hotels in Sri Lanka and did not want to spend lots of money on a blowout Maldives stay. We opted for the half board option which includes breakfast and dinner (we actually got a free half board upgrade at b&b price which meant that we could only eat in the Iru buffet restaurant at dinnertime whereas if you pay for half board yourself you can get a $65 credit to eat in any of the other restaurants).  Firstly, this is not the resort for you if:- You want a secluded romantic break. This is a large island and caters heavily for families. We were here during low season and don't mind kids but even at 50% capacity you will notice a lot of kids around. There were also not many activities catered for honeymoon couples, other resorts are much more set up for this i.e. evening beach cinemas, romantic day trips to a sandbank etc.  You expect exceptional food. We have visited many tropical locations and the food here was probably one of the least fresh. This was partly expected as we knew that Maldivian islands have to import nearly all of their consumables. I.e. you should not expect the selection of fresh fruit and veg that you would get in Thailand or Sri Lanka for example. However we are still a tad disappointed by the breakfast and dinner buffets - some items were just badly overcooked, or left to dry out and breakfast did not have the best selection. Overall it's really not bad but I wouldn't say the food here was memorable and also not quite up to 5 star standards. You want a unique underwater experience. The fish here are plentiful but we did not see any turtles or big rays, also whale sharks do not come to this region. We did see lots of reef sharks and we don't dive but have been told that the nearby dive sites are good. However it could be the perfect place for you if:- You want an amazing family trip. This resort is a great place for kids, lots of things geared towards them e.g. separate kids pool, lots of activities, good kids club, birthday party area in the restaurant and free ice cream from the dedicated ice cream shop! You get bored lying on a beach all day - that applies to us and we really enjoyed all the activities on the island. There is a huge recreation centre with pool, darts, table football etc, we even played some board games, Nintendo Wii and had a go at tennis and badminton when it got too dark to be in the sea. You like your spas - this resort is known for having the largest spa on the Maldives and it is truly amazing - you enter through a path with a water feature on either side and the whole place is immaculate. The treatments are expensive as expected but they do have deals locally approx 10- 20%. We almost opted for a treatment but in the end ran out of time. Every guest gets 1hr free use of a private hydrotherapy area which includes hot pool, cold pool, steam room and sauna. This was the highlight of our trip and we made use of it every day.  You want a hot tub on the deck of your water villa - this was my husband's one and only request and there are very few resorts in the Maldives that have this. Being able to sit in our hot tub in the evenings looking up at the stars was perfect for us (also great if it is raining slightly - much nicer than being in a pool!). You are an amateur snorkeller (or have small children) and want to see lots of fish without going too far out to sea. We stayed in a horizon water villa and literally just snorkelling in the waters between the villas we saw so many fish it was incredible! It seems that the water villas are a really popular place for baby fish and we saw shoals and shoals of different fish including tube fish and baby cuttlefish! **TIP - the best place to snorkel is near the Trio italian restaurant! Underneath the pier here there are baby reef sharks (harmless) reliably every day and lots and lots of other fish, you can just sit with your head underwater and it's an aquarium! There is also a house reef near the dive centre which was ok but on the day we went there it was cloudy and the currents quite strong so we didn't see much. Some people have said that this place doesn't have great coral - there is a lot of bleaching but no more than elsewhere we've been in the world that has a high tourist turnover. One really nice thing to see is that the resort is trying to cultivate marine life and coral - there is a place called nemo park where the hotel has cultivated anemones and there are lots of clown fish here! Nearby we can also see wire frames where they are trying to grow coral?? One disappointment was the snorkelling safari - we spent 3 hours going to 2 different sites and didn't particularly see any good reef and the fish was very similar to those near our water villas. We also didn't see any turtles or big rays but hey that's nature. Some disappointing areas (that can be easily fixed):- Some of the staff seemed inexperienced and a little disinterested. Our butlers were nice enough (Imthi and Naasi) but for some reason we were given 2 of them and were not told why but it just ended up being confusing as to which of them was going to deal with our query etc. The water villas need upgrading fairly soon - the toilet and shower flooring was stained and there was a smell of drains in the bathroom. One of the taps on our sink was so rusted it broke off when I tried to turn it off! The housekeeping team did sort this out very promptly though. Our hot tub had some teething issues which were partly due to poor communication amongst the staff and partly related to maintenance issues.  Overall we really enjoyed the Sun Siyam Iru Fushi for what it was. It did not quite live up to the 5 star experience that is claimed and service was a little hit and miss however when we approached management about problems with our room it was dealt with very well. We were offered an upgrade which we actually declined as the new villa did not have a hot tub so they offered us a free meal in one of the restaurants instead which was nice. There was also a miscommunication so our butler's did not realise we were on honeymoon when we arrived. When we mentioned this to management we came back to a decorated villa, bottle of wine and fruit platter.   They currently have good deals so would highly recommend for this and reasons above! Once theyve revamped the villas I suspect prices may go up. Read more
That was our first time at the Maldives, so we wanted to stay at the water villa to get the ''right'' impression.By your arrival, you will be welcomed at the airport by the staff of the Sun Siyam Irufushi resort and they will take good care of you (check in, direction where to go, etc.). When you arrive at the resoRt your own personal butler is going to welcome you aNd share with you all the needed information. Our Butlers name is Rushdhee, and if you can choose, i highly recommend you to choose him, you won't make a wrong decision. Every demand or a question you have, he is going to resolve with a smile on his face. Rushdhee was on our disposal 24/7 and made impossible- possible. He is one of the reasons we will definately come back at this resort, including also the overal service. He contributed a lot to help to make our stay unforgettable. Concerning the villa, it is very well equiped with everything you need (fresh water is brought everyday, coffee and milk, tea is complimentary). Bathroom is also very spacious, one section is the toilette by itself, the other part is the shower, and you have also a bath tube with a wonderful view on the ocean. The space of a water vila is approx. 85m2, including the terrace with it's own ocean entrance. The villa is also equiped with the airconditioning, so you can fully enjoy your stay, plus it is cleaned 2 times a day. Concerning the dining, there are several restaurants at the resort in which you can enjoy the local, italian, french, and international cousine. If you want to have breakfast, dinner or lunch in private, there is also an option of an in villa dining where you can order the food to be brought in your villa without an extra charge. The only thing i regret is that we didn't choose an ALL INCLUSIVE option (the prices aer high if you are half board package, so if you choose to stay at this resort i warmly recommend to take an ALL INCLUSIVE package). Hope you will enjoy as much as we did.Read more

We had a wonderful stay at this paradise spot just wondering around in bare feet in white sand and clear waters. Didn’t wear shoes in one week. The atmosphere is so relaxed and beautiful. Our nice butler, Ahmed, made sure we got to see dolphins and snorkel in nearby reefs. He also did the restaurant bookings so we got to try all the island’s restaurants. Really helpful and nice guy. We will definitely come back to this paradise again!Read more
