I had a horrible experience at the Hotel Spa during the December holiday. I made an appointment for the 27th of December at 9:00. When I arrived there I had to wait for someone to come to the desk to assist me. When she arrived, she informed me that there is no stock so they won't be able to help me. They didn't offer to move my appointment or could help me by saying when they would receive stock. I had to leave and search for another Spa that would help me in such short notice, as I'm on holiday. I was so disappointed in how they treat their customers and that they didn't even have the decency to call and change my appointment even though they knew they were out of stock. I would never revisit this Spa again, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.Read more
Arriving an hour and half early we were curtly advised that check in was at two.  No suggestion to sit by the pool or grab a drink at the bar.  We wandered off and found a dilapidated outdoor chess board to entertain us.  It was just round from a disused children's area complete with misshapen table tennis table and other broken items.  A shame we were past the cancellation window. This sprawling 150 bed hotel is well past its sell by date.  The room looked like it was decorated a while ago, aircon that should be in a museum and other ancient touches. Then someone seems to have come in, fixed the bedding and put a couple of other things right before the cash ran out. Old and newish jostle uncomfortably. The carpeted corridors are the glummest. Loads of threadbare sections still hold a clammy damp whiff. The website pics are very selective. The restaurant is probably the most disappointing.  It waxes lyrical (checked whilst I was there) of venison carpaccio, coconut encrusted prawns, fresh line fish and Portuguese chicken. The reality is a laminated menu of disappointment suited to a beach cafe. Starters show soup of the day, crumbed calamari, crumbed chicken strips and chips, no more.  Crumbs indeed.  Mains are equally dismal.  Desserts consist of fruit salad or ice cream.  Yes, that's all. Breakfast did at least have a decent range of usual suspects as well as a variety of pastries, the latter no doubt bought in. Although crumbed chicken was hanging out there too. I can only guess this place's evening restaurant has lost out to the range of low to mid price places in the village, all a few minutes walk at most.  A quiet restaurant can't sustain a range consisting of anything decent.  That's fine (we'll, it's not really) but TAKE IT OFF YOUR WEBSITE. Overall I really wish I'd picked somewhere else to stay. I feel a bit let down. Read more
We had a lovely Sunday buffet lunch at the Wilderness Hotel. The variety of food was very nice, friendly staff and the price was fair. We started our lunch at 12:30 and only finished at 15:00 and we nearly rolled out the door. Food was very tastefull and a good variety - something for everyone.Read more
We had been looking forward to staying here as we had previously enjoyed lunches in the restaurant. The location and staff are fabulous and that is why I have given it 3 stars. However the bedrooms let it down badly. The swimming pool was closed due to algae. We booked as part of a package through an agent so didn't realise that it was relatively cheap. Had we realised and read the reviews here then we would not have booked so this was our mistake. The "budget"bedrooms are at the rear of the hotel where the carpets are threadbare and there is a dank smell. We eventually were given what appeared to be a family room with a nice patio area and a sea view. However even the deluxe rooms are not appealing with old furniture, a shelf for the kettle and a stand alone fridge. The bed itself was very comfortable but the noise from the extractor fan was like a jet engine. Four coaches arrived whilst we were there and this seems to be the main business. Breakfast was fine with good service.Read more
We've been staying at the Wilderness Hotel now for a few years in succession during our annual January break. And, we've become accustomed to the usual high standard set by everyone at the hotel. It is one thing to set a standard, but quite another to maintain that standard. The Hotel Management seems to get it right to maintain their operating standards, year after year. From the reception at the front-desk, the cleanliness of the rooms, the quality and variety of the breakfast buffet, the pleasant demeanor of all the staff, as well as the general cleanliness of the hotel grounds and amenities, is nothing short of wonderful.Read more
