Open-air celebrations and feasting take place throughout Cypriot towns, however the Grand Parade in Limassol is the peak focus famous for holding the largest annual carnival on the island. During the Carnival parade large crowds from all over the island gather to watch the floats accompanied by the serenades and amazing costumed groups.
Carnival is associated with the beginning of the Easter fasting period, historically celebrated with feasts and traditional games where people got dressed in costumes and wore masks in order to scare others. This custom is still celebrated today and many people in fancy dress participate to enjoy the special razzle-dazzle. The entire town is decorated to create a festive atmosphere with colorful floats and groups of people singing and dancing in the streets.
Take in all the float preparations and gathering of thousands of people from Eiffel café which has the best view from the pavement of the popular Anaerios Street.
