We had a fantastic time shark cage diving with Marine Dynamics. We chose MD after doing research on the ethics of the activity. MD stood out among the rest for the.methods used during the dives and also for their extensive conservation work. They are part of the Dyer Island Conservation Trust (look them up).
As their website indicates, Great White Sharks are a rare sight and we did not see any. We were told the last sighting was 5 weeks before our dive so it is still possible, just don't expect it. We did see plenty of Bronze Whaler Sharks, a Cape Fur Seal, and lots of Cape Cormorants. The guide on the boat is very informative.
They provide an orange waterproof jacket, a wetsuit, booties, goggles, a shoulder weight, and a life jacket. Someone is on board making a video which they'll sell you and email it to you later. (At the time of this post we found that the link emailed to us for the video went to spam and it expires after 48-hrs. We will see if they can resend it to us. So watch your email closely!). You can also bring your own GoPro. They also had a driver pick us and others up at our hotels in Cape Town to drive us there and back (2 hrs each way). To get this you must choose the package with the return trip (for the Americans reading this, the word for "round trip" in South Africa is "return". It is both ways, not only the trip back.) The drive itself is so beautiful, an excellent way to see the countryside. Our driver was very friendly and would answer any questions along the drive. We learned a lot about South Africa by talking to him during the drive.
Great experience. Highly recommended.
