Had the most wonderful week at this Shangri-la resort. Our water villa was huge and conveniently close to the surprisingly challenging 9 hole golf course. Saw two turtles in our little bay on the way to breakfast. Highlights were our private boat trip on the Horizon. Captain sought out an elusive group of dolphins - they played a wonderful game of tag alongside us for ages. Such a privilege to see them in the wild doing something they choose to do. Wonderful dinner at sea watching the most brilliant sunset. Thank you to Ahmed Ali for looking after us so well. Another memorable night was had at Fashala. Top class restaurant in a beautiful setting. Ahmed Waheed is a top restaurant manager and we were looked after superbly. Only criticism of this resort is the shopping. Picked up a locally made shell fashioned into a gravy boat. Nearly fainted when I realised the price - $700. Shame as seemed a tourist rip off - not what I expect from the Shangri-la brand.Read more
There are not enough superlatives to describe the experience of staying at Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa. From the moment you arrive, you are treated like royalty. The service is beyond anything my wife and I have ever experienced. Every single staff member is focused on providing guests with a memorable experience. My wife and I had six blissful days here to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary in October. Where do you start? There were so many highlights, starting with the over-water villa. We were in Villa 225 in Serenity Bay, which is the middle set of villas between the golf course villas and the villas near the house reef called Whispering Palms. These are ideally located, but really it wouldn’t matter where you stayed as each villa is close to the house coral reef. On our last day we had two sea turtles swimming around our villa. Another bonus is the bikes that are provided for guests to get around. If you don’t feel like riding, you can ring reception and request a golf buggy to ferry you around. The villas are beautifully appointed with mini-bar, complimentary Nespresso coffee machines and coffee, 42” LCD TV, an outdoor shower, indoor couples bath, day beds outside on the balcony, a hammock over the water and his and her vanities. The best part was the bed; king-size, supremely comfortable and you even had a pillow menu! There are so many wonderful activities; a great gym, tennis, brilliant 9-hole golf course in immaculate condition, running track around the island, and of course there’s the snorkeling. We took a snorkeling trip to an outer reef and got to swim with sea turtles; what an incredible experience that was. We also did the glass-bottomed boat tour and were lucky enough to be in the midst of a pod of about 40 dolphins; a truly memorable experience. The resort also runs a coral planting program where guests can plant coral and contribute to helping sustain the beautiful coral reef. Our package was all-inclusive and I would highly recommend this. Sumptuous buffet breakfasts, a-la-carte lunch and dinner dining at any of the three restaurants - Jaavu, Dr Ali’s, and Fashala. Our favourite was Fashala; right on the beach and with a seafood theme. They were running a lobster promotion whilst we were there which was just superb. There are regular cooking classes as well. A special mention must go to our personal Island host, Anas, who was such a beautiful human being. There were other wonderful people such as Ahmed, Hassan, Naba, Javeed, Aravindath, Felicia, Pandi; just to name a few. There are so many wonderful staff. Last but not least, we must thank the Resort General Manager, Phillippe. He regularly dropped by for a chat to ensure our expectations were being exceeded; he genuinely wants to know all the guests personally. In summary, I can’t imagine a location or a resort that could surpass Shangri-La Villingili; we would go back in a heartbeat. Read more
By far the nicest resort I’ve been to. 66sqm villa over the water with all the luxury you want. They even have a pillow menu. The food is spot on with fresh seafood gathered daily. The staff are warm and helpful. Read more
There are not enough complementary words to describe this magical resort. Water is gorgeous, Marine life all around your Hut. Speaking of huts, they are better then most high end apartments in NYC. Food was not only delicious, but also well presented! The boat ride to watch Spinner Dolphins was a just awesome. Ride your bike around the resort and enjoy. Definitely a couples dream come true.. Wow just Wow. From the moment we arrived everything was taken care of. After a very long day travelling from the UK and crossing the Equator on the last flight to Gan I must say we were delighted to arrive and relax into our holiday. Genuinely, it is 5 minutes from airside to poolside...well ok maybe 6 minutes but oh so welcome. This was our 3rd trip to the Maldives, but the 1st time at Shangri-La Villingili and I must say they have the service package well polished. We were assigned our resort host who was Assad Manik who looked after everything we required. He made dinner reservations and booked snorkelling trips and was always on hand to satisfy our requests. Thank you Assad. We were on the all inclusive package and this is without doubt the best way to eat and drink in the Maldives. You have no worries signing cheques all day long. The food and beverage offering was excellent. Three amazing restaurants and three bars/lounges to choose from. Fashala was our favourite with an amazing beach side location and both food and service were outstanding. You receive an allowance towards food in both Fashala and Dr Ali's which was more than enough with Java being covered entirely by the all inclusive package. We stayed in a Pool Villa which was on the ocean side (opposite side from the lagoon) which we were very happy with. Villa no 210 which was centrally located and only a 10 minute walk from the water sports centre and the village itself. Alternatively just 3 minutes on the bikes provided free of charge and parked outside your villa. Buggys are available just call reception anytime to transport you all over the island if you wish. We loved the sound of the ocean and the breeze from the sea but you are not allowed to swim on this side of the island. The infinity pool is amazing though and just a few steps from your bedroom! Rooms cleaned and serviced twice daily to very high standard. Altogether had a wonderful holiday in a resort which caters for your every whim. Even managed a game of golf on the 9 hole course!Read more
