I wanted to like Andaz Dubai The Palm, but was disappointed by a few things. My review is quite subjective, and skewed towards a comparison with the Grand Hyatt Dubai ( a sister property) where we really enjoyed our stayed just prior to moving to the Andaz.
First, the hotel feels cramped. The lobby is small and gets crowded quickly. The design of the hotel looks fun and modern, and the rooms look really nice, but sometimes prioritized form at the expense of function. The open concept bathroom is beautiful but splashes and leaks water into the sink area every time you take a shower. The massive one piece blind for the window is sleek but heavy to lift—-and uses a long chain that could be a choking hazard to children.
Check-in took longer than necessary. All the information, including default credit cards were in my profile, but for some reason, we had to go through another credit card billing process. This was not necessary at the Grand Hyatt. There was also the time spent trying to upsell guests to Sometimes it’s not easy to get a taxi compared to hotels where taxi’s are queued up. There’s a shuttle to the Mall of the Emirates, but it could take over an hour due to multiple pickups from other hotels.
