Saasna

Saasna is a modern Qatari restaurant in the heart of Msheirb. Nice white interiors with glimpses of Qatari architecture all around in a modern style. We started off with some Mathai Salad, which had lettuce, tomatoes, pomegranates, and crunchy matai in a yogurt dressing. Refreshing and nice textures. For the main courses, the star of the show for me was the Badawi, a plate of spiced yellow rice topped with a huge tender lamb shank. The meat was beautifully cooked and spiced just right served with some of the broth that the rice was cooked in. We also got the Fish Barnioush, a relatively small piece of Kingfish served with sweetened brown colored rice and arugula. The spiced fish and the bitter arugula went really well with the sweet rice and crispy onions. Lastly we got the Chicken Mashkhoul, which was a chicken curry style with rice. The sauce was very heavily spiced, I did not enjoy it at all honestly, it was too overpowering so I couldn’t taste the chicken or the rice or the vegetables. Food is good, i liked the pasta with meat and beetroot salad, the shrimp saloon was fine. Service is good and place is cozy

Service was excellent, food was very quick to arrive. I appreciated that their menu had photos for each item. Overall the food was very tasty, but one of my lamb dishes was slightly under seasoned to my taste. However the dipping sauce provided, while not my favorite, made it work. The highlight was the Arabian Coffee and the dates. Upon seeing that we were tourists, the waiter gave us a quick lesson on how Arabian Coffee is made and the etiquette for serving it which was very interesting and appreciated. The coffee was very tasty. The only downside of this restaurant is that it's a little on the expensive side.

Place is beautiful, but service could be better, they are a little slow. The food tastes good, I had a chicken that was too dry. 4/5.

Great service and tasty local food served in a bit more contemporary style. Prices are on a higher end, but still affordable comparing to other places around. Location is good, convenient seating and great interior. Perhaps one wish would be if they offer a small snack while waiting for the order, so not to sit at the empty table 😉
