A great pre - birthday meal at Devon House serving wholesome hearty Caribbean favourites. Staff pleasant and efficient. Easy on street parking nearby. More
I arrived very early and went for a walk around the area. Stairs!!! I dont do stairs. Reception was friendly. I introduced myself to the young man. Mother of the bride who was also going to greet the guests. Whilst I was waiting I talked to the security guy and found we were both poets. I sat near the entrance intending to move to the top of the table when all the guests had all arrived. I greeted others from the other parties as well. Introduced myself as mother of the bride, ordered a very strong cocktail and waited for the soon to be #mrsjoannepaul. We had ordered our food during the week. My food arrived and I tucked in. It was a generous portion and I called my fish a whale. It was massive. So I got a doggy bag. The manager brought me a compliment drink. It was a fun evening with speeches which I couldnt hear as i had not worn my hearing aids. The decor was fantastic. Staff helpful and friendly. Toilets immaculate. Prices reasonable. I Left at 11.45pm , full, happy after a pleasant experience. I will be returning. I toyed with the idea of going next week for my birthday dinner but ill savour the previous experience for a few more weeks b4 I go back.More
After recommendations from family, my hubby treated me to a birthday meal here. The atmosphere in the restaurant was really nice. It was busy due to it being a Saturday night but we still felt very comfortable. The service was excellent & every member of staff was so attentive. The staff really did look after us. Between the head chef/owner Clive, the lovely gentleman making the cocktails and the waitresses, you could really sense there was a commitment to making sure customers were happy. The food was absolutely delicious. It was all very well seasoned and cooked with very good portion sizes. The cocktails were amazing, genuinely the best cocktails we’ve ever had and that speaks volumes as we are cocktail lovers. All in all, it was a brilliant evening and a great way to spend a portion of my birthday. Thank you all! More
I and my family visited Devon House to celebrate a surpise 50th birthday meal. Despite starting the meal at 10pm which was our fault as the "surprised" birthday boy turned up later than expected. After he arrived the meal started. We were served vegetable soup that could only be described as beautiful, shame there was no bread to accompany the starter. We did ask the server if there was any bread a firm response was given - NO. Which l was not impressed with, although she did come back with the last few slices of warm hardough bread. I later heard fried dumplings was given to family members. She had resolved my situation and all was good at that point. Then we had the buffet meal, l had a bit of everything on offer. There was rice and peas or plain rice which was excellent😋 The mutton and oxtail was deliciously flavoured but was lukewarm when served. The fried chicken lacked flavour and was slightly hard. I was looking forward to the fish but was disappointed as it was very very dry. The coleslaw was handmade which was delicious. The fried plantain was sweet but overdone and cold. The buffet meal was £25 per head and was expecting a dessert, none was on offer. Would l go back, not so sure, which is ashame as l had heard the food was good there, but maybe meals ordered from the menu is alot better than a buffet meal. Also, l felt the drinks were overpriced. I recently booked a table at this restaurant to celebrate a family birthday, but the day before the booking my circumstances changed, which meant instead of eating in, we asked if we could order take away instead. We were unsure whether they could accommodate us, but quite quickly we were assured that they could. Upon making the original booking and then the subsequent change, the customer service which I was received was outstanding. Annette, Erin and Michelle are a real asset to this establishment. They were always friendly, professional, helpful and organised. Qualities which will definitely ensure I not only return to this restaurant, but will share with others who are looking to enjoy not only good food, but a positive eating experience. The food was delicious too, and enjoyed by my family. We enjoyed a range of dishes including, fricassee chicken wings, peppered steak, oxtail, excovitch fish, vegetable curry, vegetarian ackee, dumplings and plantain. The mac and cheese was particularly delicious too. A very well done, to the chef(s), the staff named above and the rest of the team at Devon House. What you all did certainly put a smile on my face. Thank you. More
