I spent a week staying at The Protea which is next door and ate here a few times. In every case the food and service was impeccable! I highly recommend the special reserve Shiraz as well, and sample delicious local dishes like springbok and the most amazing chicken and mushroom pie. I really can't say enough good about the Fig.Read more
Enjoyed a great dinner here. The food was delicious (I tried the soup, the rabbit and the risotto). Our waiter was excellent as well. I've been here a handful of times and never been disappointed.Read more
We booked our table five days before the Saturday evening, only to be shown to a small table with no cutlery or table settings. The waiter (Vially2) disappeared after taking our order, and another waiter brought our roast duck to the table. We could see our waiter answering the phone, presumably from one or two of the rooms in the hotel next door. After clearing our food, he disappeared carrying two covered meals out to the hotel guests who ordered room service. We then waited 15 or 20 minutes for his return, so that we could order coffees. When he did return after fetching the empty tray from the room, we said that he should have first asked us whether we wanted anything else before going off with a room service order, and he was non-committal. This appalling service made us feel most unwelcome at this restaurant which we have visited several times before. It was a complete change from the attentive service we normally expected. The management should not allow waiters to neglect patrons in this fashion. It is a pity because their roast duck is really delicious. The restaurant should also fit lighting in the pathway from the parking area to the front door, since it is pitch black in the evening and one can easily fall.Read more
We hadn't been to the Wild Fig for many years, and it was a disappointment to see how it had deteriorated since we were last there. It was very difficult to find the entrance - the sign led to nowhere, and it was with great difficulty that we found parking and then struggled to find the entrance. While there was ample parking outside the restaurant, this was for the exclusive use of hotel residents, so as restaurant patrons you can only park in the bushes with poor lighting. Not great if you have a nervous disposition. The ambience in the restaurant was awful - tasteless decor, concrete flooring, absolutely no atmosphere. A great disappointment compared to its heyday. However, the service was very good, and the food was also good. However, couples with the noise (which the restaurant cannot help) it was a disappointing evening and we were glad to leave.Read more
We decided to have dinner here on the way to the airport on our last night and it was one of the best meals we had our whole trip. Our group of 4 had multiple apps, entrees, desserts, and alcohol and we were blown away by the price. I would have easily paid more for this meal. The mushroom tart and bone marrow dishes were excellent and the springbok pie and chicken curry pot pie were great as was the Creme Brule'.It is a little hidden and we had to ask someone where it was but it was totally worth it. I definitely recommend this restaurant.Read more
